Drive to us. Boat to us. Fly to us.

A lakefront resort, restaurant, and Fortitude Ranch survival community on a private 18-acre peninsula in north central Wisconsin — a getaway in good times, and ready for anything.

Today: Fortitude Ranch Wisconsin · Raising $1.2M to launch Three If By Air
Our namesake

One if by Land, Two if by Sea, Three if by Air

In April 1775, lanterns in the steeple of Boston's Old North Church signaled how British troops were advancing. Those lanterns warned a community of coming danger and saved lives — the same mission our survival community carries forward. We add a third signal, and turn it into how you find us: count the lanterns and you know where you've arrived.

One if by land

At the Gate

Drive or hike in — one lantern marks the gate.

Two if by sea

At the Dock

Boat or paddle in — two lanterns mark the dock.

Three if by air

At the Airstrip

Fly in or land a seaplane — three lanterns mark the field.

"One if by land, two if by sea" was later immortalized in Longfellow's poem Paul Revere's Ride.

The property today

A real, four-season lakefront property — already ours

Not a concept or a rendering. This is Fortitude Ranch Wisconsin, owned and operated today by Fortitude Ranch: a former lakeside resort whose shoreline cabins and RV park earned rave reviews for years, on its own forested peninsula, with buildings, power, water, and food production already in place. If the raise succeeds, Fortitude Ranch sells the property to Three If By Air, which opens it to the public as a resort and restaurant while it continues as a Fortitude Ranch community.

The land

  • 18 forested acres on a private lakefront peninsula
  • Former resort — includes a bar & grill and RV parking lots
  • 6 buildings: main house, 3 cabins, and a multi-level garage with rooms
  • 3 private shoreline cabins, one to three bedrooms, each with full kitchen, bathroom, and a back porch on the lake
  • Buried metal food-storage building
  • Self-sufficient: grid power + solar with battery backup, wood stoves, large propane generator, private well
  • Chicken house & yard, acres of gardens, and a greenhouse
  • Ham radios, radiation detectors, and stockpiled supplies
  • Remote from big cities — with year-round access roads; ATV and snowmobile country
  • Peninsula setting — naturally easy to defend

The Land

A beautiful drive through the forests of north central Wisconsin brings you in on year-round roads, far from big-city noise and crowds. Come by ATV, by snowmobile in winter, or hike in to see the wildlife. Cabins, rooms, and RV sites sit back among the trees.

Today's small dock and the lakePlan drawing of the new dock: single 6-foot pier, six canoes, pontoon at the T-head
"two if by sea"

The Dock — six boats + a pontoon

Today the property has two small docks (top). Part of this raise replaces them with one large dock (plan, bottom) and buys a party pontoon boat for guest rental. Other resorts and vacation homes share the big lake, so guests can paddle over for a boxed lunch, a cold drink, or dinner.

  • Three boats tie up per side along a single main pier
  • A T-head at the end berths the party pontoon boat
  • Meets Wisconsin permit-exempt limits: pier ≤ 6 ft wide, loading platform under 200 sq ft
  • Heavy pilings, cross-braced, anchored to a reinforced shore landing
  • Paddle about 15 minutes to the restaurant; floatplanes can taxi to the T-head

The Airfield

Fortitude Ranch has built airfields at other locations. Here we will have a private airstrip right on the property — pilots can fly in for breakfast, a weekend, or a long stay.

  • 1,700 ft long, 100 ft wide, laid out across the peninsula
  • Aircraft needing more distance can wait for favorable winds
  • The cleared strip doubles as a defensive line on the only land approach
  • In a collapse, private planes will be able to land here for refuge
  • Fortitude Ranch members can vacation — and shelter — at any location in the network, and other sites also have nearby airports or on-property strips
The getaway

Stay, dine, and play — four seasons

Few of us can afford a lakefront vacation home — but anyone can stay at Three If By Air. Here's what guests will find once it opens to the public.

Stay

Three shoreline cabins with one to three bedrooms, full kitchen and bath, plus rentable rooms. Sit on the back porch for a private view of the lake.

RV & tiny homes

Bring your RV or rent one for a vacation stay — or live here full time in your RV or tiny home, plant a garden, and enjoy a rural homesteading life.

Dine

A restaurant in the former bar & grill — fresh mini-donuts and eggs from our own hens each morning. Canoe over for a meal.

Dockside

Box lunches, cold drinks, and ice service right at the dock.

Play on the water

Swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing on a private lakefront.

Play on land

Forest hiking, frisbee golf, paintball, and marshmallows over the campfire. Our guard dogs keep you company if the fish don't.

Indoors

Pool table, cards, and board games — fun that works even when the grid and internet don't.

Store & more

Trailer, car, and boat storage; landing and overnight parking for pilots once the airstrip is built.
